ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE IN ATHENS

Somatic awareness for improving posture, movement, and function: for everyday life, as well as for musicians and artists.

The way we think is the way we move

Welcome to my website!

I offer Alexander Technique lessons in person and on the internet in Greek, English, and Portuguese.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT ME AND MY WORK

I am Eleni Vosniadou and this year is my 20th anniversary of practicing the Alexander Technique.

This educational as well as therapeutic process of self-knowledge helped me overcome recurring injuries and the chronic pain that I experienced as a classically trained musician.

Fascinated by the impressive results and the depth of this work, I completed a three-year Alexander Technique teacher training in London and from there life brought me to São Paulo, Brazil, where I lived and taught for nearly 10 years. During my time in Brazil, I felt increasingly called to work specifically with other musicians, to offer them the same benefits I had discovered. Eventually, this led me to establish a school – Somatic Awareness for Musicians (Consciência Corporal para Músicos®).

My work with the Alexander Technique integrates my own experience in psychomotor reeducation both as a musician and as a body that carries all kinds of human tensions, beliefs, thoughts, and emotions that we, often unknowingly, bring into every action.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of people across a wide range of cultural and professional contexts, slowly structuring my experience in how to help other bodies decompress and rediscover their natural balance, cultivating awareness and self-observation in relation to the body, movement and breathing within each activity – artistic or not.

To deepen my understanding of physiology and pathology, I pursued further education in Physical Therapy and Osteopathy. This learning enables me to understand how my students’ thinking is interfering with their movement and music.

After many years of living abroad, I have returned to Greece, now based in Athens, where I offer private and group lessons, in person and on the internet.

WHO CAN BENEFIT

The Alexander Technique is a gentle and practical process that improves the way we move and use our body. This is achieved through the cultivation of self-observation and awareness in the way we perceive our body during activity.

People who may benefit include those seeking:

  •   Improved posture, balance, and effortless breathing
  •   Relief from excess muscle tension and high stress
  •   Greater understanding and management of chronic pain
  •   Increased bodily awareness and efficiency in daily and professional life

For musicians and artists who wish to develop:

  •   Greater flow and ease in movement and performance
  •   Freedom in stage presence and artistic expression
  •   Improved coordination and performance quality
  •   Injury prevention related to repetitive movement or overuse of the body/voice
  •   Tools for managing performance anxiety

Instead of “correcting” posture, the Alexander Technique transforms habitual, largely unconscious movement into awareness, teaching us to recognize and stop harmful habits and revealing a natural flow in movement.
